The Great Race
The world’s greatest cycle race will start in the world’s greatest county on 5th & 6th July 2014 bringing millions of fans to the Yorkshire roadside to cheer on the champions of the sport.
It will be the first time it has visited the north of England having previously only made visits to the south coast and the capital.
Yorkshire is the UK’s biggest county and home to some of Europe’s most stunning countryside and coastline. Our vibrant cities are complemented by pretty market towns. We believe the rich diversity of its scenery and the warm welcome you will receive really does make Yorkshire the greatest place on earth.
The Grand Depart will be a festival and a spectacle for fans and first timers alike. Yorkshire will rise to occasion and give the riders, the teams and the race organisers a race to remember.
The route will take the cyclists through some of our great and historic cities, including the Roman walled city of York, Leeds – the UK’s second biggest financial centre, the stunning cathedral city of Ripon, and Sheffield, which is fast becoming known as one of Europe’s great sporting cities.
